Camping & Caravan Gadgets: Cold Drinks On Tap at Camp

Cans rattle, eskies flood and bottles break on the corrugations. A stainless mini keg rides it all out — then pours an ice-cold beer, rum and coke or nitro coffee at the end of the track.

  • Built with 4WD Supacentre
  • Cold 10+ hours without ice
  • No glass, less rubbish
  • Pours lying down

Why kegs beat cans at camp

Tough as the track

Stainless steel doesn’t crack, dent like cans or turn into broken glass.

Less to carry out

No cartons, no empties, no bag of cans rattling round the tray.

Cold without ice

Insulated kegs keep drinks cold for 10+ hours.

Fits the fridge

Kegs pour upright or lying down, so they slot into a 12V fridge or caravan fridge.

Buying guide

Drinks on tap, wherever you camp

The weekend away

An insulated 5L keg (about 15 stubbies) in a neoprene sleeve is all most people need. Fill it at a brewery on the way out of town, chuck it in the car and it’ll be cold at camp that night without touching the esky.

The big lap or the touring rig

The Kings Kegerator Kit was built with 4WD Supacentre to convert a 12V fridge into a kegerator. Choose a vertical tap for the front of an upright fridge or a click-on tap for a chest fridge lid, so the fridge still slides in and out of the drawer system.

The caravan

Caravan fridges are tight. Because iKegger kegs pour lying on their side, a 2L or 5L keg fits where a carton never would.

Mornings too

Nitro cold brew from the keg, or the N2Go for a single serve, beats instant coffee at the campsite.

Transporting kegs

The iKegger 2.0 tap has clip-in button locks that stop accidental pours in transit. Keep the keg upright and cold on rough roads and it’ll pour perfectly when you set up.

Questions

Frequently asked

Will a keg fit in my camping fridge?

A 5L insulated keg is 17.5cm wide and 36cm tall with the cap on, and pours lying down — it fits most 12V fridges. The 2L is smaller again.

How long does a gas bulb last?

An 8g CO2 bulb dispenses about 2L. For longer trips, use the SodaStream adapter or a larger refillable bottle.

Will it spill on corrugated roads?

The tap’s button-lock clips stop accidental pours while travelling. Spare clips are available if you lose them.

Which fridges does the Kings Kegerator Kit suit?

It suits most 12V upright and chest fridges, with a vertical or lid-mounted tap — see the product page for the full compatibility list.

Cold beer on tap at the end of the track
