An idea over a beer, in 2015
iKegger is the brainchild of two mates, Dave and Oner. An idea over a beer in 2015 turned into a garage business, grew to a Sydney warehouse, then expanded to Europe. Want to hear the idea and what it solved? Read on.
The original idea
One thirsty afternoon in 2015, while waiting in an overly long line for a beer in Wollongong, an idea was hatched — one that would solve the immediate problem plus a lot of others they'd noticed after a decade in hospitality.
"What if we could just fill a mini keg at the bar once, then sit in the sun drinking cold bevvies, instead of wasting half the day in this queue?"
Simple. Genius. The prototype launched on Boxing Day 2015 and sold out in hours.
iKegger profits go to preventing & treating cancer
Both founders have been personally affected by the big C — family and close friends taken far too young. A substantial share of iKegger profits goes to the Cancer Council to fund research grants that wouldn't otherwise get the support they need.
What other problems did the original iKegger solve?
Saves time, effort & money
A cooler full of ice and a case of bottles weighs 25kg and you have to buy the ice. Two 5L insulated kegs hold 10L, stay frosty for 12 hours, and skip the ice and the rubbish — at half the weight and size of bottles.
Reduces rubbish & pollution
Thousands of tonnes of drink packaging get binned every day after being trucked, shipped and flown around the world. Recycling is good; refilling is far better.
No more cleaning up mess
A few kegs of different drinks means the morning after is a matter of a few glasses in the dishwasher — not a disaster zone and overflowing bins.
